Sixth of January, two thousand and twelve

Happy New Year! what a year 2011 presented. In summary, it's possibly the most productive year I have ever had. My freelance is booming and music projects are humming.

To round off 2011 the band played the Queenscliff Music Festival and then we played the Falls Festival in Tasmania followed by Lorne. It was a giant year for music and I'm so grateful our momentum is continuing to grow. This afternoon we fly off to Perth for the Southbound Festival followed by a short trip to NZ to begin the Big Day Out tour which continues into Australia till early February. There is a plan in the works for a short trip to SXSW in Texas during March as well.

My freelancing has been pumping out the goods too. I was contacted by an Canberra inventor who has engineered a new type of musical instrument that should be launched sometime this year. It's all very secretive for now (patents etc..) but as it becomes public knowledge I'll post some links. He flew to Melbourne recently with a finished prototype and I have tested the machine and provide some in depth feedback. I hope it is a success! On this note, I have also been a BETA tester for Dave Smith Instruments and Elektron, two of my favourite musical instrument manufactures. My role here is to help refine the Operating Systems by providing UI design enhancements and general workflow modifications as well as finding and reporting bugs discovered

I have assisted in the development of a few websites recently such as the new Advant site relaunch and the collaboration with designer Adam Barton for Marksewen. My contribution here has been purely code based rather than design. A notable achievement here was building a responsive theme for Marksewen. What this means is that the website works across all platforms (iPad/iPhone and desktop browsers). Give it a try! click the link and try resize the window, you will see the content dynamically move as you make the browser smaller!

I'm also very proud of my sister for launching her new business this year, I can't believe she has become a carpenter! we began with a logo and the website is getting developed. I plan on making sure it's the best it can be. Take a look at the design process on Adam Barton's blog.

We are only 6 days into 2012 but it's already looking like an amazing year. I wish all my friends, family and clients a super year.

Seventeenth of October, two thousand and eleven

Springtime is just such a resolve after a Melbourne winter. Warmth at last! I'm thankful that I got a little more of it sooner this year.

Last month we did an album release tour, which was so much fun. We then went onto the Parklife festival circuit which saw us around the country one more time. Sleep become a luxury.. then came airport food, yummy. We were all so focused for those shows, I think we did pretty good.

Early October, we flew to New Zealand for a one night show at the Kings Arms. Kimbra won an award, so that was cool.

Early on in the month we were there for our very first New Zealand show for Kathryn Wilson.

Now I'm just getting back into projects and the swing of things. Focusing on removing old tools and making way for the new. I'm entering another experimental period it seems, so my mind is wide open. Giz it universe.

First of August, two thousand and eleven

After my return from Egypt I have been focused on mainly music projects. We flew to Sydney to perform at the 2011 APRA Music Awards. APRA asked us to do a cover of Across the night by Silverchair. We also had some bunch of flash photos done

I've just flown back from Brisbane where Kimbra and band played the Splendour in the grass festival. It was a really fun show. I've never seen so many smiling faces looking back at us before!

I've been putting a band together to play some music this Summer and we have a few members already. I'm really excited to start a project focused solely on experimentation and beauty using music to paint some pretty abstract pictures. We begin rehearsing mid August and will probably continue till the end of the year where we can play some shows around Melbourne for a start. Most the initial songs are ones I wrote travelling Europe but there will be much collaboration going on once I find some additional help.

I was asked by Advant to create a iPad and iPhone compatible reader that worked with their existing services so their clients could read newsletters without flash. This has successfully been completed in July.

We are off to New Zealand soon for the NZ Fashion week to perform. Hopefully I get to see some of my friends and family when I am back home for a few days.

Next month is the release of the debut album 'VOWS' so we are off around Australia to play in all the major cities. Then we are playing the Parklife festivals in addition which should be lots of fun.

Twenty Ninth of May, two thousand and eleven

Europe has been beautiful to explore over the last few months. UK, France and Spain were my first destinations. Then headed north into the Netherlands and I'm currently in Germany freelancing in a coffee shop in Prenzlauer Berg.

Each had a unique charm and seeing them all in the bloom of the European spring, definitely added an interesting perspective.

The Medox rebrand proposal I pitched prior to departing was successful so I'm now briefing some photographers and sorting the current collateral for a end of June deadline.

Musically, I have almost completed writing and recording an album in between sightseeing Europe. The goal was to write and record a song in every city across Europe. Next Tuesday I'm going into a Berlin studio to record drums and I'll mix it when I get to Egypt next week. When I get back to Melbourne in June I'll begin finishing some tracks.

I did some music with Michael Tayler for a Peugeot TV advertisement which should be out soon. The filming was done by Luke McPake. Check it out here.

Fourteenth of March, two thousand and eleven

So it's March already. I've been doing some charity work for some clients building donation websites for flood relief as well as some creative photography in addition. I'm midway through a rebrand concept for Medox, a service that sources Doctors, Nurses and Vets and everything is looking good so far. Today I finished some video editing for another client called Advant. Last friday I did some filming for their website promotional video. That will go up soon once it's approved and I'll post a link for you all to view. I've taken on a whole bunch of new website projects including one for Drake safety and another for Salsa. I also helped a friend out with branding for his cookie business the other day, called Clever Cookies. Look out for them at Lord of the Fries in Melbourne, they're delicious.

With the help of one of my best friends Timon, we played an experimental show at a friends art exhibition last week where we improvised for over an hour. Normally I'm pretty comfortable on stage doing my thing but I was really out of my element here. We managed to hack our way through it with looping soundscapes and some effects.. then some more. Believe me, it's not easy getting on stage without a plan and having just 2 people hold it together. Definitely one of my proudest moments on a stage with him and one I'll never forget!

Just got back from the long weekend where I played at Melbourne's Moomba Festival and then the Chill out Festival in Daylesford the following day. Beautiful place out there and really enjoyed the set too.

Next month I'm off around Europe. I'll still be working while I'm travelling and doing musical stuff as well. I have heaps planned while I'm over there, but I'll fill you in on the next post cos it's bedtime. All my love and prayers to Christchurch and Japan.

Twelfth of January, two thousand and eleven

Happy 2011 beautiful world. I've been in New Zealand for a little bit, back to Melbourne to play a few shows for New Years and then went to Los Angeles for a band showcase. A few days ago I got back to Melbourne and I'm currently back to work now with a bunch of websites to finish off and to commence work on an upcoming music video project. Highlights of the last few months has been playing Meredith Festival, Pyramid Festival and playing a really solid New Years eve show at Miss Libertines.

Pretty soon I'll be launching a new business that specialises in simple mobile apps which is tentatively titled 'Azizio' and another project I've started with my sister - a web based clothes shop. We plan on selling bizarre threads not found elsewhere. I'll let you know a little more about those in another update. For now I'm going to focus on getting music finished off and sorting out a bunch of early deadlines.

Thanks to all of my clients and friends for your support last year. I can't wait to make the most of this year.

Seventeenth of November, two thousand and ten

Over the past month I have been playing shows across Australia and New Zealand with Kimbra supporting Little Red. There has been lots of good stories, but you know.. what happens on the road.. stays on the road. Highlights were playing a few shows at the Forum in Melbourne, one of the most beautiful venues I have ever played and also some of the smaller towns were just gorgeous.

Between playing over 24 shows I managed to finish 3 websites last month. You can view the brand new iq-people website here. This website has quite a bit of functionality - including a custom job search page, similar to the seek website. Another clients website I have been working on - which is now live is the new Projexion website. You can view the new website here. Finally, you can view a work in progress of a yummy cupcake business website here called Electrik Cupcake. They make custom cupcakes.. great idea!

I have a deadline in place to release the psychedelic kids album I have been chipping away at with my other band, Brahski. It looks like 12th of December is the cut off date. I'll let you know next month where you can score that album from!

Fourteenth of September, two thousand and ten

It's been all go the last few months. Work continues on the secret UI and AdvantOnline was successfully launched with InDesign Server. It's the first opportunity I have had to contribute towards building such a project. InDesign server is an automated web to print framework that enables users to download print ready artwork from pre-made templates. Thank you Nik Jell and Michael Conroy for all your help with troubleshooting the scripts.

I collaborated with Chris Diprose, a talented, upcoming photographer for a new client called Statement. Annelies is a fashion consultant who needed some fresh promotional portraits to help launch her new business. Chris looked after the raw images and I looked after all the retouching on our new wacom tablet.

Just started to put the finishing touches on iq-peoples website, it's looking really fresh, not long now, should be launched this weekend! Still on web, work has commenced on the new Projexion website and it's going to look mighty fine. Web guru Michael Tayler is now lending a hand to ensure all my timeframes are met!

Musically, I have been working on the Brahski album and playing live shows with Kimbra. Played in Sydney supporting Oh Mercy and last week flew to Brisbane to play at the Big Sound Festival. Good times. Friends! I will be touring with Kimbra around Australia through October so I hope to see you soon.

I had a day off today with my musical buddies and travelled out to Werribee Park Mansion to act in a scene for a friends film. The film is called Push/Pull by Alexander Brunacci. You can check out the trailer here

Fourteenth of June, two thousand and ten

Hi, nice to meet you. My name is Fagan Wilcox and I am a freelance Art Director from Melbourne. I'm lucky to have my head buried in projects that are fun and challenging thanks to a bunch of wonderful clients. This website is going to be my personal space, where I can talk about what I have been working on and more importantly a shout out to everyone I collaborate with. Starting now, I will endeavour to post my thoughts here as often as possible.

This month I filmed and edited some footage for a client to go on channel 7, worked with some creative folks in Sydney troubleshooting scripts for InDesign server and started developing a UI for a top secret invention. In my spare time I play in 2 musical projects, Kimbra and Brahski. I have the cutest cat. Check out Cocoa Jackson.

Please email me any questions.
